Concours 101

Just to give an idea of the attention to detail during judging, here are some common examples...

In comparison, a water bottle with a nice new white finish is definitely Concours quality as opposed to one with a yellow used finish, which would cause the competitor to take a penalty.

The engine cover stay assembly is an interesting example of a part having two different looks and either one of them is acceptable.

Something as simple as a wire being coiled or straight can cost you points.  See the red wire on the A/C compressor?  The coiled one is correct.  Also notice that one compressor has a label and one doesn’t—and there are two different labels possible!!  It’s all about the details.

How about the little scuff mark on the seat?    It didn’t come that way from the factory—it probably looked more like the second example.

Have you ever checked your wheels this closely for dirt or damage?

And of course you have heard the saying “keep the shiny side up”.  Well in Concours competition the “shiny side” needs to be up, down, and all around.

Your car will get a thorough going over by the judges and you will know where you stand compared to a perfectly built factory car.

If an issue comes up that stumps the judging team, a head judge will be called upon to make the final decision.

At this year’s competition, a couple of interesting things did come up… like a reverse imprint of some of the lettering on the glass markings and a missing cigarette holder in the ashtray.   Next page...
